I was doing a corporate show in northeast Iowa a few months ago, and I overheard a conversation that got me furious. The people at the table were talking about my show, before I went on, and they said, "Yeah, he's just a magician, nothing to worry about. Just a bunch of tricks." Really??? Of course, after the show, he changed his tune, but that comment really got under my skin. As I say in the "About" section of the website, I DON'T DO MAGIC TRICKS. I've seen other "mentalist" acts, with plenty of tricks up their sleeves, (And I've seen a few psychic swindlers doing the same thing). I know what they're doing (why do you duct tape your eyes shut anyway, just to read a piece of paper??? Just a bit silly.), and I avoid those approaches like the plague. No gimmicks, thank you very much. I don't do tricks. Yes, there's nothing supernatural that I do. I'm not possessed by a demon. I don't use secret devices. I don't used electronics (except a microphone, so you can hear me). I use abilities that we all have, just in an extra-special way. Study psychology, study people, learn from your elders, listen to your gut, and you can do it, too...with years of practice and dedication. Behold the enigma of the mind. I can read your mind. I can influence your mind. All through connection, in an incredibly funny and amazing show! Another great show on April 23rd in Ankeny, IA, at the Summer Youth Lock-In at Ankeny First United Methodist Church. What a fun group!
I had a great time last Saturday night (okay, it started at 1:30 AM) entertaining with a 90-minute show for the Post-Prom Party at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, IA. Everyone had a blast! Below are a couple of very brief highlights. (They were also shocked at how fast I could hypnotize the group!) Enjoy the snippet! The only way to really understand what it's like to read another person's mind is to experience it yourself! Here's something you can try that will give you an "inside feeling" of what it's like to actually read someone's mind. I do this exercise at many of my Ladies Night Parties and other events. Find someone you can feel comfortable with for this experiment. Decide who will be the "reader," and who will be the "subject." Sit directly across from the person and join both hands. Take a few deep breaths together. As you take each breath, picture your minds becoming closer and closer together. Now relax for a few moments with this image of your joined minds. The subject is to think about something...a color, animal, person's face....something specific. The subject then tells the reader the category of what they are thinking about (animal, person, color, etc.). The reader then relaxes and lets images flow through her mind, getting intuitive hints as to what the subject is concentrating on. Let the images, sounds, or insights flow together and take a stab at what the subject is thinking. Say it out loud, and check if you are wrong, close, or spot-on. Then switch roles and do the experiment again. This should give you a feel of how much information is going on in my own mind, when I am reading someone else! What exactly does it mean to let go?
Granted, I can't really stand the term, after hearing the song "Let It Go" being sung time after time by my four daughters! Yet, I find that it is a message that often must be given time and again for my clients. Let go of expectations. Let go of old relationship patterns. Let go of the toxic memories that are affecting your present-day blessings. Much of the reason for the confusion around letting go, has to do with the misinterpretation of the term. Most of the time, letting go is confused with forgetting. It's as if letting go of something means that it should be entirely obliterated from my mind...no memories, no pain, nothing. Yet the truth is far from this "blank mind" approach. Letting go means that I choose to not be sucked-in to the story and emotional energy that swirls around it, like a seductive and deadly vortex. If I let go of a past relationship, it doesn't mean that I've forgotten (or tried to forget - good luck!) about the relationship. Memories will still surface, and emotions may still well-up for years to come. I choose instead to recognize these memories and emotions for what they truly are: memories and past imprints. They do not need to define who I am right now in this moment. I can choose differently. I can choose to live a new life, an entirely different life of my choosing. Yes, the memories or emotions will surface from time to time, but I will simply notice them and move forward, without being sucked into their vortex. You see, when we get sucked into the vortex, we find out...there's nothing there. It's just an unending tunnel of memories and emotions that dig deeper and deeper into a well of anger and resentment. It's not freedom; it's prison. So when I recognize that (a) I'm tempted to go into that vortex, or (b) I've been sucked into the vortex, I can stop, recognize it as the Nothing that it is, and let it go. Recognize. Let go. Recognize. Let go. The power of letting go means that I choose freedom. It means that I choose to be a powerful, wonderful, fully-alive Self, rather than a slave of the past. Is it easy? No, it takes practice. And it is in the doing that we get better and better at letting go. At releasing what had once bound us. At embracing the freedom that once eluded us. At becoming who we truly are: a fully magnificent, alive and empowered Self. That is the power of letting go. You know the feeling. You're sitting down for a rest, and you just start wondering how your borther or sister is doing. The phone rings, and it's your sibling, wanting to know how you're doing, and giving you some important news. Or you're at the grocery store, and meet a total stranger. You feel that you simply must talk to this person, so you boldly introduce yourself, only to find out that the person is the spouse of a contractor...who specializes in refurbishing old homes...and you've been looking for this kind of contractor, and had given up the search. These are just a couple of instances of synchronicities. The word is what we usually use to describe a coincidence. Yet, we are becoming more and more aware of the reality that there are no coincidences; things do actually seem to "line up" in the right time and place for us. Why? Well, the basic idea is about vibration. When you are thinking of something or someone, you are putting out thoughts at a particular vibrational frequency. The more you focus on this idea, the greater and more intense your vibrational frequency becomes. Your "target" recognizes and vibrates in the same frequency as the vibration you are emitting, and, before you know it, the two of you find your way to each other, and you have a synchronicity of your very own! There is immense power in similar vibrations. This is the core of the Law of Attraction: that the more you focus your higher vibrational thoughts on something, the greater possibility that you will attract what you're focusing on. Or, to put it simply, thoughts become things. Similarly, when negative people get together, their combined focus of lower vibrations attracts negative effects as well. Just as positive attracts positive, negative also attracts negative. So how can we harness the power of synchronicity for our lives? The most powerful - indeed the only thing you need to do - to manifest synchronicities in your life is to actually believe in them with all your being. Now that may sound fishy or simplistic, but it's true! When you truly believe that everything is working in your favor, and that everything that you ever need or want will show up at its perfect time, the opportunities start to manifest themselves rather quickly. And when they do, it is important to consistently back up that vibrational energy with even more belief in synchronicity. When a synchronicity occurs, express an act of gratitude for the event, and then know deep within yourself that another synchronicity is on its way. And you know what? It WILL show up even more quickly than before! So be open to synchronicities in the coming days. Be aware of what thoughts you are focusing on, and see how the "coincidences" start to manifest in your life. You will be pleasantly surprised! By now, most people in the world have heard about the Law of Attraction. If you haven't, here it is in a nutshell: thoughts attract things. Negative thoughts attract negative thoughts and things, while positive thoughts attract positive thoughts and things. What does the attraction process look like? Picture someone sitting quietly in a chair, visualizing the life she wishes to attract, or focusing on the relationship she desires. Or picture someone writing in their journal a detailed description of the life he feels called to live, with the intention of attracting it into his life. While this might be the bare-bones version of the Law of Attraction, there are subtleties and nuances and help it to work more easily and effortlessly for you. The Law of Attraction is extremely useful in building up your business, attracting healthier relationships, attracting wealth in all its forms, and building a life that is more in harmony with your personal heartsong. It is a wonderful tool for growth and development as well. As my clients implement the Law of Attraction, they usually work with an attraction journal I give them, as well as a specific mindset and focus that I work with them intensely to achieve. However, they will sometimes run into various roadblocks along the way, and those who are experienced with the manifestation process also run into common pitfalls. We're all human, we all forget things, and we all experience the need for reminders once in a while! With this in mind, try this quick check-up with how you're using the Law of Attraction. 1. Where are your eyes? There's an old monastic practice we called "custody of the eyes." We were instructed to be aware of what we were seeing at all times. This was to help prevent envy, jealousy, comparison, etc. The wisdom of this practice was that we had to consciously allow things into our line of visions that were helpful, rather than simply letting our eyes (and mind) wander into any old place. The same is true for you. Do you always put before you those things that are helpful and build you up? Or do you engage in a comparison game, always looking at everyone else to see what they are doing, and feeling terrible, envious or awful about yourself or state of life right now? Make a resolution to a "diet of the eyes," in which you will consciously be aware of what you see, and place only positive and upbuilding things in your visual field. You WILL feel a difference, as it raises your vibration and emotional experience of life! 2. Watch your language! Again, I turn to the monastic wisdom of silence. We were often cautioned on when we spoke: why were we speaking...what were we saying....what was the point of what we were saying, etc. Mindfulness of our words helps us bend our perceived world to a more positive...or negative...direction. What limiting words do you use in your usual vocabulary? Using words like: can't, won't, should/shouldn't, can't help it, these are all phrases that limit us in our abilities. Take control of your life! Choose to do actions, rather than become a victim of circumstances. Even if something is happening that is out of your control, choose your mindset toward what is happening as teaching you something about yourself. Also, allow silence to be a choice for you. If you are tempted to speak negatively about yourself or others, just choose to stay quiet. You're not repressing an emotion; you're actually choosing an energetic vibration. One more thing: watch what you say (and read) on social media. Those words can generate all sorts of negative energy. I often tell people that if you want to get depressed, just read Facebook! 3. Create a vortex. In the attraction process, I often advise people to create a vortex around what they want to attract. In other words, focus your energy, words, actions, and choices around what you are trying to manifest. Simply visualize a swirling vortex around what you want to attract. What are the things that pull toward that vortex? Choose only those things that will encourage that vortex to spin toward what you want to attract. If anything falls outside that vortex's mission, just drop it, no matter how glittery, pretty and shiny it might be. Keep the focus. Keep the energy. I could right more, but this is long enough! Do you have your own "checkpoints" for the Law of Attraction? Leave them in the comments below! Create a beautiful day! How much energy do you spend each day on physical activities? How much energy is consumed each day with spiritual concerns? The body and the spirit rely on each other for support; one suffers if the other is neglected. Finding the right balance between physical energy and spiritual energy is necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle. An overactive spiritual energy can cause physical weakness, lethargy and exhaustion as well as lower the body’s natural immunities to disease. An overactive expenditure of physical energy can cause anxiety, stress, confusion and nervousness. Try the following simple exercise to see the difference in your levels of physical and spiritual energy. Divide a sheet of paper into two columns. Label the first column “’ Physical Energy” and the second column “Spiritual Energy”. In the first column write down all the physical activities that you take part in on a typical day, try to list as many activities as you can. Include things like carrying groceries, walking the dog, playing with the children. Begin with your morning routines and end with going to sleep. Now, in the second column make a list of every type of spiritual activity that you perform in a typical day. This can include things like meditation, counseling and teaching your children, reading, creating, planning, prayer or any other activity that requires you to expend mental and spiritual energy. Now think carefully about the activities in your life. Which activities truly utilize the strength of your spirit? If you are like many people then you may notice that you spend the majority of your time performing physical tasks while neglecting to exercise your spiritual self. Just as common are the people who spend a lopsided amount of time and energy using mental or spiritual energy while the physical self is neglected. Try to evaluate the disparity in energy levels between the two types. Are you perhaps spending eighty percent of your time on physical activities and twenty on spiritual ones? Create a list of possible ways to find more balance in your energy levels and incorporate these things into your daily routine. Seeking a balance between spiritual and physical activities and energies will result in an improvement of both aspects of your health and wellbeing. As many of you know, I sometimes see information in the form of colors surrounding your physical body. I can perceive emotions, thoughts, faith, and where you store these things in the physical body. As with the energy of the emotion of love, the use of laughter also serves as a powerful energy calibrator. When you laugh, it recharges you, and heavier waves of energy such as fear and anger are immediately converted into higher waves of energy. When you laugh, you can almost feel a change come over you; not just emotionally, but energetically as well. If you are in a situation where you are fearful, you should simply laugh. Really! An Elder of the Lakota nation once said that he was required to belly laugh for two solid minutes along with other elders of various nations prior to negotiations with the many nations. The elders were using the knowledge that laughter changes the body and the environment around you as your energy bodies extend outward and actually impact the environment you are in. Can you imagine what some laughter would do before a presidential debate?! We also know via research that the use of laughter has major impact on physical health and our emotional states. That makes sense knowing that laughter calibrates all the energy in your body! Have you ever noticed that some of the most powerful Kahunas, Shamans, and Mystics often laugh and tell jokes? Just imagine how the world would change if our world leaders laughed everyday! That may be a daydream, but in the meantime we can each try to do this ourselves. Make an intentional commitment to belly laugh for two minutes every day. You will start to see how light-hearted you become, as you develop the ability to laugh at yourself in all your faults in the physical body. Laughter makes being a human being easier! What a powerful impact this can make, even though it is so simple! |
